    ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
    The meeting will be followed by a talk from James Jones, a House Parent at Housman Hall, which will be based on his researches into the Victorian Bachelor. He will relate this to the Housman Family. Wine and Refreshments.

    A.E. HOUSMAN BIRTHDAY COMMEMORATION
    The annual ceremony by the statue will be followed by a buffet lunch in Housman Hall, by kind invitation of the Headmaster of Bromsgrove School. . The Guest of the Day will be The Very Reverend Peter Atkinson, Dean of Worcester Cathedral.

    A.E. HOUSMAN – SHROPSHIRE’S POET
    An evening in aid of St Laurence’s Conservation Trust in which Graham Trew (baritone), Polly Bolton (singer), Frances Page (reader) and Jim Page (narrator) explore the resonances of Housman’s poetry with Shropshire.

    THE HOUSMAN LECTURE
    The Name and Nature of Poetry
    Michael Berkeley will be the speaker this year and his standing in the fields of music and literature through his compositions and his long-running programme Private Passions will make his lecture eagerly anticipated. The lecture will be followed by supper in the sponsors’ marquee to which members are cordially invited.

    SUMMER EVENT
    90th Anniversary Reading of Last Poems
    Following lunch in the chapel (deconsecrated) in which A.E.H worshipped Andrew Maund will give an introduction to Last Poems in celebration of the books publication 90 years ago. Followed by a reading by members of the complete book.

    THE HOUSMAN SOCIETY WEEKEND
    Plans are well advanced for another Society Weekend in Housman Hall in which there will be a wide range of presentations, including one from Wendy Cope and a song recital by James Rutherford, in which this fine baritone will give a complete performance of A Shropshire Lad, mixing musical settings with readings.

    SCHOOLS POETRY SPEAKING COMPETITION FINALS
    Competing pupils from Bromsgrove’s schools will speak a poem by A.E. Housman and another poem of their own choice. There are categories for Sixth Formers, Juniors and for the Middle School age group. Open to the public and support from members is very welcome.
